Fly Fishing Courses
Beginners Courses

A one day course is a fantastic way to get yourself started on your own fly fishing adventure! The day starts with an introductory chat over coffee, we show you the gear you will be using and go through the safety issues and the plan for the day. After that we get stuck into the casting. We explain and demonstrate the casts and then it's your turn. By the end of the morning we will have you roll casting and overhead casting effectively. We then move on to look at our quarry, what they eat, where they hang out and how we can use that knowledge to catch them. We will have a close look at what food is available to the fish and show you the imitations we use to fool the fish.
After lunch you put your new found knowledge to the test as we go after your first ever fly caught trout all, of course under the watchful eye of your instructors. We will have nets and cameras at the ready to record that all important moment when it all comes together and you connect with that first fish.
At the end of the day we will get the kettle on again and talk through what to do next if you feel you have been bitten by the bug and want to fish on. We can advise on your first fly rod, practice exercises, fly selection and answer all of the questions you have at this stage.
It doesn't end there though, anybody that has learnt to fly fish with Adventure Fly Fishing UK can contact us for further advice whenever they need it, anything from what flies you might need for your first adventure on your own to recipes that make the most of your prized catch.
Advanced casting course
This is a new course from Adventure Fly Fishing UK designed for experienced fly fishers that want to develop their casting skills. Do you want to add distance to your cast? Do you want to sharpen those loops? Do you want to finally nail the double haul? Or improve your line control? Then this is the course for you!
We can tailor this course to suit your needs when you book with us but a typical course will begin with looking at the roll cast. Most fly fishers we see don't make the most of this cast, we will show you how to turn this cast into a sharp looped, accurate weapon for your fly fishing armory.
We will look at your overhead cast and give you tips to improve your loop shape, efficiency and add the distance you need. We will work on your single and double haul casts and show you the techniques you need to defeat that problematic wind that can hassle us from time to time.
From there we can move onto single handed speycasting. We will get you using the single and double speys, Snap Ts, Circle Speys and snake rolls. With these techniques in your repertoire you will be able to access so much more of the water that you would normally walk on passed.
Saltwater Fly Fishing Course
If you are an experienced fly fisher that doesn't know where to start when it comes to heading to the salt then you should really consider booking this course. We will meet at a favourite mark, your instructors will be waiting for you with a boiling kettle and a friendly welcome. In the course of the day you will learn all you need to know to identify the most likely fishing marks on any stretch of coastline. To the uninitiated these areas can be extremely hazardous; we will show you how to fish them safely and effectively. We look at the tackle you need, you may be pleasantly surprised how much of your current fishing kit makes perfect saltwater fishing kit. We will show you the casting techniques that help us cast the heavy flies that we sometimes use in the salt and how to cope with the breeze that we often find here.
Fishing begins in earnest ahead of the flood tide when we show you the tactics that we have refined for targeting the mullet. These fish are amazing, I love fishing for them and whilst they are notoriously difficult to catch they never fail to get the pulse racing as we watch them carefully inspect your offerings! With the first flush of the flood tide we will switch targets to the bass, we will show you the latest tactics and patterns.
The day ends with a debrief around a boiling kettle, we answer any last questions and review the photos from your first day 'in the salt'!
Both instructors are Police Checked, fully insured and first aid qualified
